About

Hi there,

My name is Rob Been, currently living in Tokyo, taking intensive language courses 5 halve-days a week until the end of April. After that period I should be able to have a relatively normal conversation with Japanese people and hopefully read the newspapers and such. After my studies I will travel the country and get some visits from friends and family.

I’ve recently finished my Masters Thesis at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. I’ve studied Computer Science and am now finally finished with my education. Although I won’t receive my degree until August, because it was impossible to receive it before I went to Japan. I decided I want to have my ceremony in August when I am back from Japan.

I’ve got a passion for cartoons, comics and anime. I watch(ed) several anime series and movies, including Full Metal Alchemist, Naruto, Bleach and Death Note. Further more I collect comics, but not like the Marvel superhero type, but mostly European stories like Elfquest, and The Incal. This summer I added my uncle’s collection to my own, so now I am the proud owner of about 600 comics, most of which are 1st prints in the Dutch language. One of the best is a first print of the first Asterix, published in 1966.

I also like sports a lot. In the summertime I try to go wakeboarding as much as I can. Although I’m not very good yet, I slowly get better over time. I also started practicing martial arts in 2006 at Ron den Boers Fudoshin Ryu dojo in Amsterdam. This is a martial art based on the traditional Okinawa arts, combining Toide, Ju-no Kempo and Koryu Jujutsu. I joined the Daitoryu Aikijujutsu Roppokai dojo in Tokyo.

Please enjoy your visit to my site, and feel free to leave a message when you see something of interest!

Kind regards,

Rob
