Acer repair service…

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Last week I sent my Acer projector to the Acer repair service, because lately the colors were all off. This was clearly a malfunction, since that didn’t happen before. I called customer service, got a nice Indian call-center woman on the phone and arranged that I could send in my projector. All is well so far.

Today I got my projector back, and NOTHING changed. The only thing the repair person did, was reset my projector to factory defaults and cleaned it a little. So I turn it on, and within minutes, the same freaking color problem. So now I’m sitting at home, waiting for UPS to come pickup my projector to be returned to the repair service. Only this time I included a problem description of my own:

Last week I sent in my PD125 projector for repairs. It arrived on the 7th of December, with Ticket ID: 2115312G. I received it back today, but NO repairs were done. The only thing that was done, was that the firmware was reset. And the batteries of my remote control were replaced. However, my problem still persists. Therefore I hereby resend you the projector.

The person who carried out the last repairs must’ve been slightly colorblind to not see what is my problem with the projector, therefore I will explain it one more time, as clearly as possible:

All colors are totally off after having the projector on for about 1-5 minutes. Red becomes green, Orange becomes grey-ish, grey ranges from purple to greenish. ALL colors simply don’t match. At first this is most clearly seen when watching a movie. But after a while you will also notice the color decay on the desktop. This was NOT the case when I used the projector earlier. It started about 3-4 weeks ago. First only after using the projector for about 2 hours, but the time I could use it without the color change quickly decreased. Within a week it showed after 30 minutes. Right now you can see the color change after about 5 minutes. The colors progress to a worse offset over the 15 minutes following that.

I insist that the person who will repair my projector calls me when he starts the repairs, so I can explain it over the phone one more time. I am truly not happy with the previous repairs were handled with a simple: “Couldn’t understand the problem”. If someone doesn’t understand the problem they should call the person who has detected the problem in the first place to verify what’s going wrong. Therefore, in order to prevent a similar mistake I absolutely insist that I receive a phone call from the person who will do the repairs. My telephone number is: #.

With this, I truly hope the repairs can be done within a week, because I really need my projector back in time. If not I will lose income, since I need my projector for work around Christmas.
